Difference between Flotsam and Jetsam

Flotsam is floating cargo or wreckage following a shipwreck.

• The flotsam floated for weeks, long after the ship sank.

Jetsam is something thrown overboard to lighten a ship in distress.

• The jetsam consisted of many cartons of canned food.
