Difference between In line for something and In line with something

in line for somethinglikely to receive smth. such as promotion, etc.:

  • The decision to place him in command had been made hastily; he knew that he had not been in line for such a post.

in line with somethingin agreement or harmony with smth.:

  • You must keep project activities and resources in line with your plans or adjust your plans accordingly.
